UNCERTAINTY REMAINS AROUND THE UPCOMING BREXIT DECISION

MPs rejected Theresa May’s Brexit deal on 15 January 2019. They returned to the House of Commons on 29 January, and again on 14 February and 27 February, to debate the government’s response. However, uncertainty remains as to when the UK will actually leave the EU.

Wells Fargo, fell victim of a black swan event on the 7th February, which left thousands of their customers with no access to online banking or their mobile apps. The outage was the result of a fire at one of their data centres in Minnesota.

The fire meant that the servers at this location were shut down.

JT Jersey Data Centre Journey

WHO ARE JT JERSEY?

JT Jersey (formerly Jersey Telecom) are a Tier 1 telecoms operator. They have the largest network in the Channel Islands, 120 years of experience, 700+ Roaming Partners and 11 Global Locations. JT provides Internet of Things (IoT), Roaming Solutions, International Networks Extensions (INE)(Inbound Solutions). Messaging Solutions (A2P, P2P) and Fraud Protection Services. JT actively participate in the GSMA working groups and plenaries.

LANDING AND EXPANDING IN THE UK

Jersey-based Tier 1 telecoms operator – JT were seeking to expand their services in the UK. The expansion, while opening the door to new opportunities – raised some concerns. JT Jersey highlighted risks with this overseas expansion – such as; response times to issues, unmanageable technical failure and difficulty in taking care of their infrastructure remotely.

Hype Data Centre Journey

WHO ARE HYPE?

HYPE Innovation is one of the world’s leading providers of software and services for idea and innovation management. Companies work with a plethora of providers and follow numerous approaches to generate future options: idea campaigns, open innovation, insights scouting, startup relationships, intrapreneurship, and much more. Typically, these initiatives run in isolation. HYPE offers clients an integrated solution – HYPE Enterprise. This solution is a value creation hub, allowing all innovation activities to be tracked on a unified platform.

MODERNISE AND MAXIMISE

Having worked with physical monolithic servers, Hype decided it was time to modernise their infrastructure and switch to virtual machines. Originally, Hype used an all-in-one server approach to host their infrastructure. They were seeking a more resilient and secure solution which would in turn prove more cost effective. As part of the modernisation process, Hype set some strict requirements to have features such as; DDoS protection, IDS/IPS systems, flexible backup options, dynamically adjustable resources and proactive support.

WHAT DID HYPE FIND?

Having clearly established their requirements, Hype created a RFI and took this with them on their hunt for the perfect cloud provider.

Amito responded promptly to Hype’s RFI, exceeding expectations for most of their requirements. The bespoke agreements that Amito put forward were also big ticks for Hype, offering great flexibility – putting Amito ahead of some large competitors. As an added bonus, Amito proved extremely competitive in price.

With the Amito solution, Hype were able to extend their infrastructure to a 3 tier setup: a web server, application server and a database server, all running behind a firewall and Amito’s DDoS protection screen. This kind of setup offered high security and additional scalability.

IMPECCABLE IMPLEMENTATION

Adding further reassurance in the Amito solution, Hype were offered a free test server to check if the performance matched their requirements – which it did!
The implementation process continued and ran smoothly. Any challenges the Amito team were faced with were overcome rapidly.
